Addicted by Nico Rooney review
Nico Rooney is an up and coming singer songwriter hailing from London. He describes himself as a young entertainer entrepreneur, which is certainly a good thing to be in the current musical climate. His music is a blend of RnB and soul, with Addicted being a perfect example of his style.
Starting with a simple modern sounding beat (the production is first rate, bringing to mind the producer Timbaland), the first thing that grabs you is Nico’s inimitable voice. With a smooth as velvet tone and a large vocal range, comfortable with the high notes, Nico stamps his individuality immediately. Vocally, he is like a cross between Maxi Priest and Justin Timberlake.
The track itself is a fine slice of RnB, with a simple but effective hook ( ‘Lay back…lay back…I’m addicted to my love like that‘) that sticks in the mind instantly and soon becomes addictive (no pun intended). The slow pulsing groove gives the music a sensual feel, and as is often the case with RnB, the subject matter is about getting amorous with a lady.
Overall, this is a classy offering that showcases a unique vocal talent and is a fine song in itself. With UK singers such as Sam Smith and John Newman currently huge in both Britain and also stateside, now is an excellent time for Nico Rooney to make a name for himself and continue Britain’s legacy for producing the finest musical talents.
