Interview and music review with Vinci da Deala – Big Dawg
Big Dawg has a really likeable vibe to it when it kicks in, there’s a huge amount of entertainment in there, throughout the whole track, and a really strong presence in terms of the production; quite simple technically, sound wise, but there seems to be a lot of little gems added within the music – there’s a lot of creative chopping and moulding together to make it all work in such a way. It’s actually one of those tracks that makes you feel like you’re watching a short movie clip or a sketch. At times it was reminiscence for me a little of Outkast, but only slightly; the character and the overall personality that shines out from start to finish is something brand new. That freshness is there and the fun of the whole thing is definitely something to run with.
Vocally the flow was pretty flawless and hugely expressive, appropriately altering in expression depending on the lyric or the particular part of the track that was running. That’s what helped give it the short movie feeling that I mentioned. I’d be keen to watch the video for this one.
There was a point at which the chorus part seemed to have been spinning out for a while, I looked forward to the verse, but the verses were creative and unusual and everything you’d hope for in this kind of track. The production again really helps bring out the best in these vocal deliveries. The music has some subtle but powerful inflections that help hold it all together so strongly. It’s hugely listen-able, I did wish there was another verse or two though, I’d be keen to hear more from the artist as the character that is expressed intermittently is pretty captivating and attention grabbing. There was a lot to enjoy about it.
