Fantasy Girl by @YoungKaii Music Review and Exclusive Interview
Young Kaii formerly known as K-Star, is an upcoming female hip-hop rap artist from Providence, RI. Who is an outstanding lyricist and vocalist as well. Not only has she joined the ranks of openly gay performing artists, she has also proven that sexuality and gender have no influence on your creativity, talent or genius. Moreover, can inspire unexplored creativity. The track Fantasy Girl is among Young Kaii’s top recordings and has the capability to lead in the ranks of recordings that are directed in support of the gay and lesbian’s community. Also, to spill over to the general mass of music lovers as being an anthem for music lovers worldwide. The track speaks of actual varying dreams that are about an actual girl interest from a past relationship. The subject of the dream is described from head to toe. Furthermore, intimate details of the relationship is displayed throughout the entire track, describing the emotion that was felt and is being felt. ‘I think we’re in love’ is a result of having this dream. With the focus on tensions and sensuality, the outcome is an uncontrollable lust. This girl is THE girl and the object of desire to the artist. There is no replacing her, in the Subconscious and no desire to. The song goes on to tell of the couple’s romance and how hard it is to not think about her love interests. It mostly speaks of the intimacy that they share and how much it is enjoyed by the both of them.
Young Kaii, is standing out as an independent musical artist and is holding the foreground of openly gay female rap artists. Young Kaii has credited such artists as Puff Daddy, Notorious Big, Missy Eliot, Jay-Z and Ludicrous as being among the artists that have inspired her interests in becoming a rap artist and lyricist. Also, she has derived a style in the likes of 80’s and 90’s era rap and hip-hop and has combined it with modern technology and philosophy. Topics that were taboo in those eras are no longer in the background and unacceptable. On the contrary, the subject matter is is a popular discussion among both straight and gay rights activists. Making this topic a whole new area to venture in retrospect to poetry and lyrics and will contribute to the forward progression in support of one of the most basic of human rights, to be oneself.
With, a desire to be among mainstream artists, Young Kaii is among the hardest working new female rap artists today. Moreover, her interests have increased and she has added a flare for the dramatic along with various vocal capabilities to her interests, by adding singing into her talent docket as a musical artist. As is displayed during the chorus or hook. Which by the way, is a smooth vocalization telling the listener that ‘ there’s a girl that I dream of ‘… And that ‘I think we’re in love’. The statement is a confession as to the fact that she doesn’t want to awaken. Effects of reminiscing of the good times that were shared with her partner. The intro to Fantasy Girl is mostly synthesizer combined with a high frequency of treble to convey a twilight or dreamlike state. Snares emphasize the dreamlike condition. The percussions and bass are used to bring out a feeling of passion and is highly effective in portraying the beating heart and increased urgency. As the dreamer, has the urgency to awaken if the state of being is uncomfortable and would normally want to awaken. However, in a pleasant dream state, one would desire to remain in a dreamlike state. When listening to this track, one can’t help but focus on the pitch of the keyboard synthesizer which stand out throughout the entire track giving it a techno-electronic feel throughout.
The video accurately portrays Young Kaii as a ‘Tom boy’. No effort is made to mask the fact, as it would ‘dull the effect of displaying her sexuality preference. Eighties green-room effects on certain clips of the video bring a sense of a past affection and adds an old school feel to the directing. Then on other clips throughout, and on a more personal note, the acting is very well played. The shower scenes are somewhat revealing, however, not so much as to leave one guessing what might happen because it is told in the lyrics. Overall, Fantasy Girl is an accurate display of affection and increased passion. If love hurts, then it isn’t love. a because there’s no indication that heartache and pain are an issue in Fantasy Girl. In all Fantasy Girl is a sexy rendition of an imaginary love.

Exclusive Interview:
EV: OK, so let’s get right into it! So, what do we call you? Is it K-Star or Young Kaii? I hear them both in your songs. I’m guessing they both have personal meanings?
I guess you could say I have two persona’s; K-Star was my first stage name and it’s the more flashy/lyrical rapper who has more of what I call a mainstream look. Young Kaii is a bit more on the personal/soft side , laid back with a tomboy look.
EV: Why Music? What made you decide to go down this path? Any life experiences help guide you in this direction?
I fell in love with Hip-Hop at a very young age,More Money More Problems by Puff Daddy feat. Ma$e and Notorious B.I.G. was the first Hip-Hop record I ever heard. I became inspired to write my first verse after I listened to Missy Elliot’s Gossip Folk feat. Ludacris. I had an old YAMAHA keyboard that I use to mess with and I would make beats and freestyle to it; I can’t explain the feeling I got when I first rapped over a beat. It was like love at first sight lol
EV: Tell me about your song “Fantasy Girl”. Can you break it down a bit? What was going through your head when you wrote this?
Fantasy Girl is a record that was inspired by actual dreams that I kept having. I couldn’t stop having different dreams about my ex and being with her, in one dream she was looking for me and in others I was looking for her. When I told a friend of mine about these dreams she told me the dreams I was having were Fantasies. My ex was pretty much what was going through my mind as I was writing my verses.
EV: As you evolved in your musical career, what types of obstacles did you run up against?
To be completely honest with you , I would have to say money. It’s not easy being an independent artist; things can get very expensive. You kinda have to put your vision on hold and it’s torture for an artist that likes to be constant like myself. Many independent artist think that they can get signed just by making music but there’s a whole lot more that has to happen.
EV: Are you one of those artists that likes to play it safe and follow a play guide or do you do what you feel is going to help you grow personally regardless of what other people think?
I’m automatically not playing it safe for the fact that I’m considered an OUT rapper. In other words I’m a female rapper who’s out of the closet and I think that alone can bring a lot of controversy.Another reason is because I am known for simply being different and always being my safe. I wouldn’t want to attract people that wouldn’t like me for who I am anyway.
EV: Our country is transforming and more and more people are speaking out in support of gay rights. How do you feel about being a gay artist this day and age and speaking about it in your lyrics?
I think it’s great because I know some of my music is more accepting and I say “some” because I write about almost everything, not just love songs. Also because I feel like my music is less likely to be rejected because of my sexuality.
EV: What are some artists that you respect and wouldn’t mind collaborating with in the future?
I have respect for all rappers but mostly the artist from the 90’s like Jay-Z , Eminem , Jada Kiss , DMX , Missy Elliot the list goes on and on.
EV: Any other projects in the works that you want to talk about?
I have a few big projects on the works but for now I’m focusing on promoting my very first album tittled This Is Love ; it’s a dope album, the beats are dope. I’m very proud of it and I know people will enjoy it when they listen to it’s available iTunes and on my official website iamyoungkaii.com
EV: Do you remember buying your first Album? Who was it? Were you like me, already un-wrapping the packaging on your way to the car?
I know you probably think this is crazy coming from a rapper but I was a huge fanatic of J.Lo so my very first album purchase was J.Lo’s first album On The 6 lol and yes I was hella excited and could not wait to open it. lol
EV: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your MP3 player?
Probably some really old tracks of me when I was still trying to improve myself.lol
EV: If you were given a million dollars and a year off, how would you spend it?
I would definitely spend it wisely cause a mill can disappear quite quickly but; I would buy my dream house and with a year off I would still travel and make music.
EV: What’s your studio environment like? What are you working with?
I usually lock myself in a dark room or something lol but I love my engineer, he’s great. We work with pro-tools.I just lay down the vocals and he does his magic.I usually dim the lights when I’m in the booth.I just like to feel relaxed and in my zone.I don’t really smoke much but I do like to sip on wine when I’m in there.
EV: How do you feel about online music sharing? Do you give your music away for free?
I think online music sharing is probably one of the best tools an artist could ever use.I only share the music when it’s on a promotional beat.
EV: Do you have a personal Website or an iTunes link we can promote?
Definitely ! my official website is www.iamyoungkaii.com and my itunes link is itunes.apple.com/us/album/this-is-love/id583443460
EV: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals and what made you decide to sign up?
I believe I was invited to the website on twitter so when I checked out the website I thought it was a really dope website for artist to post theirs videos and get real views from real artists and fans.
EV: What can our readers and your fans expect from Young Kaii in the upcoming years?
The fans can expect a whole lot more unforgettable projects like Fantasy Girl and for those who feel like they still need to know a little more about me I will be letting you in to my world more on youtube.com/youngkaii so make sure you subscribe !
EV: Thanks for sitting down with us and I hope we can help you gain some music industry exposure.
