Music Review – Ryon Cali – Mozart
You get a real sense of scene with this track, an immense atmosphere is created from the very beginning, and the music that follows is equally powerful – though pretty hugely different in it’s general vibe, not quite what you’d expect, but awesome – a really nice switch. It works, it kicks things up a level, the horn riffs in the background, the live sounding kick and thrash of the drums, the voice itself and the flow and delivery of the lyrics – all fits brilliantly together to make what is essentially a huge summertime feeling winner of a song.
The vocal itself among all of this immense music of great vibes is a confident and smart sounding lead. He has a conversational style to his presentation of lyrics, but it doesn’t take away from the flow, it seems like an effortless performance, completely natural, someone made to do exactly this. I was reminded a little of Kanye from time to time, but I think it was the horn sections, that Touch The Sky / Gold-digger musical style, it has a summer session feel to it. The lead vocal itself and the lyricism within it are not reminiscent of any other artist. I liked the sound of the voice a lot, and the wordplay, the lines he created; it was fairly unexpected, which is great, important really, it sounded fresh – there was something really real and likeable about it.
It’s a brilliant quality if you can draw listeners into your music and your persona with just a single track, and this happened here quite effectively – I’d be really keen to hear the album, find out what else there is to be said, see where else the music and the creativity will take this artist – the drama within the music, the introduction for example, seems to point to an innate desire and ability to create escapism, to play around with sound. I’d love to hear more.
