Music Review – Ryan “RKM Legend” Moreland – I’ll Show You Remix
Ryan “RKM Legend” Moreland has a pretty unusual style when it comes to spitting his verses. The recently released remix of “I’ll Show You” has a great vibe to it, nice and chilled, nothing too unexpected – it’s the artists personal take on one of Justin Bieber’s recent tracks, so it has a fairly familiar and current sound to it. Moreland’s vocal though, it has really unique flow to it, a somewhat unorthodox style that stands out among the music. At times the rhythm he uses is quite intense, it builds up and up and feels like it might not sway or stop at any point, but he does then break it away, fairly intermittently once you get into the track, so you get that crucial time to breathe and soak it all up.
The artist’s Soundcloud profile does actually state that this particular remix came about by means of a freestyle, in which case it’s particularly impressive – the flow and the rhythm and the wordplay are all quite genuinely faultless. The rhythm of it gets a bit repetitive, but this is what free-styling is in most cases, the beat and the vocal intertwine and work their way out into the world in unison, so it’s meant to by hypnotic and passionate. Plus, as mentioned earlier, Moreland as the artist that he is seems to recognise this just in time, so it doesn’t really ever fail to be a strong presence and a strong performance.
His story telling skills are really reflective and intriguing, it fuses so well with that incomparable flow that he showcases throughout. Some of the lyrics are sublime, really clever lines, it all happens so fast though that you really need to listen a couple of times to catch it all. It’s by far a more interesting version of the Bieber song. Moreland seems to have a lot to say that is unique to his life and his experiences, and he says it in a confident and stylish manner. Not surprising really, Moreland is an independent and nine times award winning artist in his neck of the woods, an impressive set of achievements to his name. A lot of the time it is that confidence and that faultless performance style that makes a hiphop artist stand out, and this is something the artist, the legend himself, has defiantly mastered. I look forward to seeing where his impulsive creativity takes him next.
