Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
David: I was born in Paris and ever since I was born I wanted to express myself and music was my best way to do so. I started to play piano first, then became a singer. I started to write songs and to produce and move to New York in 2001. There I discovered Broadway Musical, Theater and Opera. I’ve been singing Opera, Musical, doing theater and films for the last 15 years. I’m very excited to present my new album in a Pop Rock genre ALL MY VLEO IS FOR YOU that I entirely composed, performed, arranged and produced.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
David: ALL MY LOVE IS FOR YOU is the name of one of the songs that I wrote in the album. I’m passionate about people and to sing is to express my love for them. So All my love is for you!
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing?
David: I think it’s important when I perform music to share it to the greatest amount of people. We’re lucky to have social medias and online music platforms to broadcast our music so that anyone in the world can listen to it. I had people who discovered me on youtube and now are following me. It’s a great way to get feedback from what you do and to increase your fanbase.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
David: Today the artist became a Do It Yourself man. I always say “You can’t polish a turtle”. So the most important is first to do always the best product. Work on it as much as you can. Polish your craft to its best. Then the packaging is also important. Remember that Nespresso didn’t invent coffee but became a unique brand. Then it’s the promotion. If you can answer to the question “Why Should I listen your music instead of big stars”? Then you probably have something.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
David: I prepare and rehearse so much my shows that there are almost no chances to make a mistake. I’m very focused, serious and details freak. I have performed over 1,000 concerts worldwide and I think that I’ve seen it all. The only thing that I’m always scared during a show nowadays is a technical incident. If that happens, I’ll make comedy about it! I’ll improvise!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
David: I’m constantly performing. I’m lucky to be also an actor and to do a lot of films and theater. I love to perform and to travel. To meet people and entertain them is one of my greatest passions.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
David: Melodies come to my head and then I sit on the piano and the basic of the song is there. Then I work a lot on it. I add the lyrics. I also spend a lot of time on the arrangements and the production.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
David: My website is www.davidserero.com
I used the platforms of YouTube, Soundcloud, Vevo and of course iTunes, Spotify, Amazon..etc.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
David: I’ll keep doing the same. I’m a workaholic. I can’t stop working from day to night.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
David: I recently signed a great rap and hip hop artist called Rob Cherry on my record label. He’s very talented and is the first artist in the genre that I signed. I recently produced his debut album called Hunger Pains. So for the first time I had to study Hip Hop arrangements. I realized that in Hip Hop they use “beats” with a drum, bass and loops that doesn’t change through the whole song. So I decided to change this and added dozens of instruments and percussions ‘live’ on the tracks. It brings an orchestral quality to the genre which makes it unique.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
David: It depends what kind of music I’m doing. For my previous albums (I recorded 12 albums from Opera to Broadway, Jazz and World Music), stage was the best way. For ALL MY LOVE IS FOR YOU, my new album of Pop Rock / Adult Contemporary music that I composed, radios are the best way. At this point I have a few dozens of radios in the US, UK and Canada who are playing it and I received great feedback from the audience.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
David: Frank Sinatra (the greatest crooner), Michael Jackson (I produced and arranged last Jermaine Jackson’s album I Wish You Love) and Sammy Davis Jr. who are the greatest entertainers ever.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
David: I’ll be performing three lead roles: Shylock (Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice) in January, Nabucco (Verdi’s Nabucco) in April and Othello (Shakespeare’s Othello) in June for the American Sephardi Federation at the Center for Jewish History in New York. I will also act in few TV series and films.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
David: I’ll be doing Acting, which I’m already lucky to be doing a lot.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
David: There were so many…There was Phil Collins, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson..etc. But one album, which changed me, was Bon Jovi’s best of.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
David: News shows, News Films and more music! 2015 was hot, 2016 will be even greater!
