Just Released: JAY WATTS premieres the visuals to “Single Friends” on BET JAMS

Emerging artist Jay Watts has debuted the sensual music video for his latest single “Single Friends.” (Achitechz Remix)
The Jet Phynx Films-directed visuals finds the singer/songwriter caught up between his girl and her single friend’s influence. Rocking a orange bubble jacket and gold frames while seated in his Rolls Royce, Watts croons to his lady to be mindful of biased advice. However, it might be too as he fears the damage is already done.
 “I don’t have the time now that I’m starting to see the signs / I’d rather start over, redesign / Some things we just have to leave behind,” he sings.

Speaking about the concept for the video Jay notes: “Sometimes we tend to overthink when the person we’re dating tends to go out a lot. The whole idea of the video is to show that most of the time it’s all in our heads. Instead of having a planned out video I decided to go to Venice Beach and shoot an organic video with the people in the area…”

Flaunting a wide-brimmed fedora with a multicolored half moon design and wielding a robust, raw, and real voice, it’s hard to forget Jay Watts once you see or hear him. However, this singer, songwriter, and producer wants to make more than just a musical statement. He says so with his very moniker…

“Well, Jay is because of my first name,” he explains. “Watts means energy and electricity. I’m trying to create an energy so powerful that it causes people to unite and be colorblind. I want to bring everybody together. That’s my purpose-and to put on an awesome show too!”

He definitely possesses the ability to accomplish those goals. Jay got his start early. After mom heard him making music on the family karaoke machines in their Penns Grove, NJ home, she started personally calling record labels on his behalf at just 15.

“It’s funny to think about now,” he smiles. “My mom literally called up Universal Music and told them she needed to talk to somebody because if they didn’t listen to me, they’d be losing money someday. She actually made it pretty far, but it wasn’t the right moment yet.”

He built towards that “right moment” organically, steadfastly honing his craft. Pushing towards “10,000 hours” in the studio, he caught the ear of multi-platinum producer Reefa [Lil Wayne, Rick Ross] who signed him to a production deal. Jay’s first official single “Millionaire Club” saw him receive coverage from XXL, MTV, and more. In between working on more music, he shared the stage with everybody from DNCE, Rae Sremmurd, 2 Chainz, A$ap Ferg, Bryson Tiller, Designer, Fetty Wap, Kelani, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Meek Mill, Usher and Flo Rida. His next release “Single Friends” continued to make waves eventually landing him a joint venture deal with ReefaMusic & Team Eighty.

“It’s soulful,” Jay says on his music. “It just comes out. When I hear beats, I grab the microphone, record melodies, and then write words. It’s a fusion of hip-hop, rock, pop, country, and more. I bring everything into my music.”
That’s certainly the case with his single Single Friends. Produced by Reefa, 12 Keyz, the singer’s voice gives you feeling of the pain and frustration he was dealing with in his relationship. “During the time I recorded Single Friends, my girlfriend was going out a lot with her friends whom all happen to be single. There’s nothing wrong with your significant other going out and having fun but when it becomes an every weekend thing it can be frustrating. One day i was in the studio listening to a few beats and there was something special about this particular beat that came on. It catered to exactly how I was feeling at the moment. I literally loaded it up and the first few words I freestyled were “I’d rather be single than put up with this shit. I started to build from that and the rest is history.”
 
Single Friends just kicks off a bright future for Jay Watts. “I want to show people it doesn’t matter where you’re from, you can accomplish anything, if you work hard towards it,” he leaves off. “I want listeners to look at me and know that my music comes from my personal experiences and I don’t go in the studio and record these records just to do it. I want my listeners to be able to relate to me as a real person going through the same everyday struggles as them.”
