Exclusive Interview and Music Review with J.DAYGO
Born and raised in the southeast side of San Diego, Emerald hills, California, J.Daygo, which also stands for Dominate Anything You Get On, a young lyricist with a smooth funky flow mixed with hip hop has a addiction with making good and uplifting music. Father was a Dj, grandfather was into jazz which rubbed off on Daygo. Surrounded by gang violence in his neighborhood, started writing rhymes in the six grade. Always had a passion for sports(boxing/ football) through out his teen ages, but after turning 23, perfecting his craft has been his only priority.
From San Diego to the Bay area, you’ll find a variety of different groups … However, there are a few rappers in particular that have the strongest buzz. One of them being J.Daygo.
Ever since artists like Too Short and N.W.A burst on to the scene in the late 1980s, the West Coast has been recognized as a hotbed for incredible and diverse hip-hop talent. Whether it was the gangsta music of artists like Snoop Dogg, MC Eiht and Above the Law or the decidedly non-gangsta rap stylings of groups like the Pharcyde and Tha Alkaholiks, there’s been a plethora of dope MCs throughout the Golden State.
These days the scene is as vibrant as ever. J.Daygo has the top three things any artist needs to thrive in the music business: strong singles, a growing fan base and undeniable bars. This track brings me way back to 1994, Snoop Dogg dropped a single that would change the way we drink gin forever! While many were only using gin to make martinis, both shaken and stirred, “Gin & Juice” off Snoop’s debut, Doggystyle made the British liquor seem all-American. J.Daygo’s spin off is a hip hop time machine that had me hitting reply on my ride home from NYC on the “Westside highway” (pun intended!)
Overall, this is a sick single that has “westcoast” plastered all over it and by the way things are going for him, this track could catapult him to mainstream fame. Check out his hit new single “Either Way” being played on AL/GA’s KISS 104.7 FM and stick around for our Exclusive Interview with J.Daygo (Below)

Exlusive Interview:
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
J-Daygo: I’d received a follow request from Exposed Vocals on my Twitter account. I decided to sign up to give my music a bigger audience, let my voice be heard and network with good people.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?.
J-Daygo: I grew up in California, the southeast side of San Diego in Emerald Hills. I decided to become an artist because when it comes to creating music, to me, good music takes time, and being an artist I have total control of how I want it to sound, what I want to be said, what message I’m getting across. I’m able to be my own Boss. I have a deep passion for music too, plus where I’m from, surrounded by gang violence, playing sports and doing music are like the only things positive to do if you’re not already in school.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
J-Daygo t: My first name is John so that’s where the J came from. I told myself whatever I called myself, it had to be a summary of my personality. My parents raised me to be independent, fight for what you want, and never give up, so everything I did I made sure I put 100% in plus. I had to dominate. Give my all. D.A.Y.G.O, Dominate Anything You Get On, J – Dominate Anything You Get On, or J-Daygo for short.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
J-Daygo: I give all my music away for free, I have a passion for making good music and changing someone’s way of thinking, in a positive way. Getting paid to make music is just a plus.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
J-Daygo: Yea, first believe in yourself even if you’re the only one who supports you or sees the vision. Be your biggest fan, promote yourself HEAVY, and keep making good music, eventually they’ll find you.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
J-Daygo: I try to prevent mistakes, if I miss a verse or say the wrong line I’ll keep going, turn my lips into a Dj. The show must go on.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
J-Daygo: I haven’t been on tour yet, but that’s what I’m looking forward to!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
J-Daygo: In an isolated spot, usually my room, in my car listening to the jazz station driving on the freeway.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
J-Daygo: No website yet, I use my Twitter account, username DAYGOTHEGREAT and Soundcloud, username J.Daygo. Also on Numberonemusic.com/JDaygo
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
J-Daygo: None that I know of, if you do let me know haha.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
J-Daygo: Take half and invest, wait till it doubles then I give the other half to my family, keep investing.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
J-Daygo: I’m a work in progress, what I have gets the job done, but I’m exploring trying to see what works best for my creativity. My main focus is having good lyrics.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
J-Daygo: Straight through my social network, posting flyers with artwork that I designed myself. The internet works a lot better for Global exposure, exactly what I’m thriving for.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
J-Daygo: Europe, Paris, Australia, with Nipsey Hussle, J.Cole, Curren$y, and Hiatus Kiayote. I’m inspired by Nipsey, J.Cole, and Curren$y because of their business way of pushing their music and brand. I recently started listening to Hiatus Kiayote and been influenced by their creativity ever since.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
J-Daygo: I’m working on 3 mixtapes at once right now called Palm Trees and Georgia Clay Volume 1, State of Mind, Volume 2, GOD’s ILLA, and Volume 3, One Step At a Time. Which I will released all at once.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
J-Daygo: Working on my family business.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
J-Daygo: I was real young, I paid almost 13 for it, I brought Bow Wow’s second album. I don’t remember what was going through my head besides wanting to make my own album after seeing a young kid accomplish it.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
J-Daygo: Before I decided to become an artist, music has been a part of my life so I made it one of my responsibility to progress with my music and work on my craft regardless.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
J-Daygo: Good music back to back. Inspiration to dominate anything you get on and make a change.
