Dar.Ra – Heart Shape Pill
On “Heart Shape Pill” Dar.Ra embarks on a wild, rambunctious journey one fueled by a clear-eyed intensity. Elements of glam rock, the blues, and funk come into the mix creating something that has such passion. The playfulness of the vocals and the arrangement works perfectly, for the lyrics seem to virtually cascade adding to the intensity of the piece. Deserving to be absolutely blasted, the track feels akin to a long-lost 70s rock n’ roll classic. Quite danceable, the groove feels infectious while it continuously grows larger and larger in scope. Everything about the piece has an acute sense of balance, from the way that the poppy sensibility of the piece helps to frame the untamed tenor of the track to the celebratory, freewheeling lyricism, it all simply works.
Not a moment is wasted for Dar.Ra dives headfirst into the multifaceted, multilayered approach. A highly ornate arrangement takes over, while guitars scream across the track with such majestic scope. Everything about the piece rushes forward, from the tremendous color of the riffs to the funky rhythms that help to anchor all of it. By far though the true heart of the whole thing are those vocals, which manage to create a sort of freewheeling atmosphere. Towards the latter half of the song the rhythm shifts gears a bit, moving into a colossal chugging rhythm that feels as if it was perfectly tailored to be played live, full of such life.
