Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Great Bend, Kansas, a wonderful little town but I think I was just artistic. I really started to attempt being an artist around 98. It seemed like the most impossible thing I could try.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Don’t judge yourself or think it’s going to be perfect immediately. The journey is the fun part and you have to fall in love with the process I believe.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Tons of them. I don’t react to mistakes when performing and no one notices. During a show though I have the microphone I try and make it about the crowd, it’s not about me, I’m here for your entertainment.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I haven’t yet. The production of music and videos keeps me pretty busy but performing live is the most enjoyable part.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I’m a gear nerd and I definitely need to make more use of what I have. Back in the day I was having more fun with less. I’m a big fan though of the ADAM A7X monitors and I’ve always wanted ribbon tweeters. The highs are really clear and they’re great. I have several miss and good mic pre’s but I’m drooling over these warm audio products.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Promoting is the hardest part I think. Looking like an accountant and not being in a rap costume has made it hard but I won’t be getting face tattoos anytime soon. I’ve been working with Seen and Heard Marketing in AZ who has a great team of people that has been wonderful in preparing for the “Late Bloomer” album release.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I’d really like to find a way to do shows with someone like James Taylor. I’m not that much of a rap fan actually and always wanted to blur the line between genres. I feel like rap often boxes itself in. Childish Gambino does a great job of breaking out of the box though.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I’m releasing my 4th self produced album, “Late Bloomer” this September. I feel as it’s my best work so far and my only real aim is to give more of myself and raise my own bar each time. Albums take me a couple years to make and it’s a lot of work but I am pleased with it.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Living in a van…..down by the river!
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
The crazy music videos and lyrics videos I have made as well as the “Late Bloomer” album itself. I’m currently working on a project called “Kuala” and “Mind of a MadMan Mixtape 2” which hopefully both are done when the summer is over.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Matt Foley – the best motivational speaker ever, Seen and Heard Marketing, Brandon Mills and CMP for putting me on the Underground Takeover Legacy Edition, Glass Camelot and Doenut and Winston Baby of Kuala and….my boy Peterson who has no idea who the hell I am.
