Chantitown delivers a sound of pure poetry on the enigmatic “Cause and The Cure”. Feeling ideally balanced, she creates her own unique language to explore these lands. Spacious to their very core, at times Chantitown’s vocals recall the beauty of Nico’s lovely body of work. Done with such care, not a single moment is wasted for she allows these pieces to gradually come into bloom. Patience becomes an important ally for the whole tracks simply embody a sense of hope and life. Symphonic at times, she allows multiple streams of sound to merge into one fantastic realm.
Things begin on a high note with the powerful opener “Mother of Sun”. Sung with such tenderness, her message comes straight from the heart. Gradually the piece builds up into a cinematic crescendo, allowing for a great deal of color to enter into the mix. Attention to melodic progression works wonders. By the end of the piece she strips all of that away to return the sound back again to the essentials. A dreamy approach comes to define the surreal scope of “Prince of Pain”. Rather minimal in its take and embracing rock a bit more is the expansive note of “Truth” which taps into a defiance of sorts, one that looks inward. Ending things with the collection highlight the massive title track “Cause and the Cure” represents a perfect intersection of ancient and modern.
