Exposed Vocals just sat down with ‘The Lord Razu’ talks new album “Release” in exclusive interview
Based out of Virginia, The Lord Razu also known as Brotha Chen, is a producer, writer, and recording artist of the Drum & Bass and Hip-Hop Styles. Influenced by many inspirations ranging from kung-fu movies, 90’s Styled music, cinematic scores, video games and anime he creates a unique blend music that limit breaks the standard. The Lord Razu embraces a mysterious dark beauty on “Release”. Flows possess a tremendous amount of lyrical might while they display a hard, defiant attitude. Over the course of the collection the Lord Razu manages to explore an entire world with the utmost of ease. Stylistically the Lord Razu brings together a plethora of genres, ranging all the way from hip-hop to drum and bass with a little bit of dub referenced in these expansive tracks. Layer upon layer is brought into the mix with the greatest of ease, as the Lord Razu ensures that these pieces are filled with unexpected twists and turns. Reminiscent of Nas and Busta Rhymes, these pieces deserve to be blasted at the highest possible volume.
“Lyrical Frankenstein” introduces the collection with hypnotic looping. Done quite tastefully, the piece comes to set the tone for the collection. On “Cupid’s Kunai” the Lord Razu employs a nimble sample that creates an infectious groove, while the flows feel so fiery and passionate. An eerie presence emerges on the late-night vibes of “Lurkin’” with the entire piece delving into a sense of self-reliance. Samples work wonders on the inspirational take of “I Am Release”. By far the highlight of the collection comes for the energetic workout of “Outta Time”. Stripping things back to the essentials is the heavy “Family” where the Lord Razu spits these verses out with an intense passion. Perfectly bringing everything to a close is the reflective “Backstory”.
With “Release” the Lord Razu proves to be an incredible storyteller, one that creates an entire narrative that ties the whole collection together.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
The Lord Razu: I’ve been living in Virginia since I was 9 years old but I’d like to say I grew up in Central American where I really learned life. What inspired me to really become an artist was the pioneers before me. The Hip-hop culture is a beautiful thing and it has helped define who I am today.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
The Lord Razu: One thing before you get on stage. Make sure you define and know yourself. Without in integrity there is no self.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
The Lord Razu: Just go with flow, stay with the rhythm. If you get nervous, that means you don have confidence.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
The Lord Razu: I haven’t toured yet, that was the plan for this summer. Just wanted to have my ducks in a row before I do that.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
The Lord Razu: I plan to buy a Native instruments Komplete Kontrol
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
The Lord Razu: The best way I found is using Instagram as well as my own website.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
The Lord Razu: Anyone from the 90’s because they were my teachers growing up. Seeing different artists flow perfectly on collab tracks shows for a great song/show.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
The Lord Razu: I have several projects that will be coming out until this time next year. The next one up is called Relinquish. It’s a connection to the most recent EP titled “Release
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
The Lord Razu: I think that my path in music was inevitable but I would probably into something that involves creation.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
The Lord Razu: Look for fresh Ideas and variety. I make different genres of music and I strive to bring new elements in each song I do.
