Exposed Vocals Interviews Jaswarf
Exposed vocals: How did you hear about exposed vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Jaswarf: After favoriting one of my songs I had just put up on twitter, I decided to check out your page, and a free interview seemed like a good opportunity for me, so I signed up.
Exposed vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Jaswarf: I grew up in this tiny, redneck, racist town. It’s called Dansville, Michigan. I’ve always felt like i didn’t belong here, and that’s because I don’t. I moved to the capital city, Lansing, and lived there for a year getting used to living in the city even though its very small compared to most major cities. I decided to become an artist after I started listening to hip hop. I bought Fruity Loops and started playing with it, fucking loved it, and after about 6 months I bought a Maschine, started making beats and in just two years I have gotten exponentially better at producing. It’s just how I want to live my life.
Exposed vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiriation behind it?
Jaswarf: Its just my full name shortened, JASon WARFle, I like how it rolls off the tongue.
Exposed vocals: What do you think about online music shating? Do you ever give your music away for free?
Jaswarf: I think its a great tool for new artists, this day in age you can have artists that succeed solely on internet fame alone, selling out large venues strictly because of their strong online presence and constant music sharing. I release most of my music for free.
Exposed vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Jaswarf: Well considering I am the definition of a start-up, my only advice is to keep working and bettering yourself at your craft and decide your own fate. You choose what you do with your time and if you choose to do this then go out and get it and do it.
Exposed vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Jaswarf: Ive never performed live.
Exposed vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Jaswarf: no. no.
Exposed vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Jaswarf: Im inspired by myself and my own goals and values when it comes to my beats, apart from the small outside styling that influences the way the beat sounds that day. Inspired by the “underground” artists as well, the ones who have incredible talent, aren’t recognized by it to mainstream media, and don’t fucking want to be recognized by mainstream media.
Exposed vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Jaswarf: Jaswarf.bandcamp.com and soundcloud.com/jaswarf are my two mainly used music websites where I share my music. Twitter, facebook, soundclound, and bandcamp.
Exposed vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs we might find on your mp3 player?
Jawarf: Enjoy the silence by Depeche Mode, even then though I’m not embarrassed about liking anything. It’s a good song.
Exposed vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Jaswarf: I would travel to west africa, italy, L.A., N.Y., eat good and drink good.
Exposed vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Jaswarf: Yes, working my ass of now to save up enough for a Maschine studio rather than a mikro. Currently working with a maschine mikro 2 and a desktop computer and studio monitors.
Exposed vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Jaswarf: I find ways to promote my music through online research and asking other small artists what they use to promote their music. Soundcloud/actual human interaction and discussion of my music works best for me right now.
Exposed vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Jaswarf: I would want to perform in the middle of the woods with generators somewhere in Russia, with Flatbush Zombies and Turnstile. Why? Because that would be fucking incredible, thats why.
Exposed vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Jaswarf: That’s a wrap is coming soon, wait on it.
Exposed vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Jaswarf: Doing what I’m doing when I’m not making music, co owning a lawn mowing business.
Exposed vocals: Do you remember buying your fist album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Jaswarf: I bought Born of Osiris’ cd The New Reign. I was thinking that this band goes hard and I want to listen to this right now.
Exposed vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Jaswarf: Keep a calendar, meditate, drink, smoke, try to stay level headed, don’t overwork myslef.
Exposed vocals: What should fans look foward to in 2015?
Jaswarf: That’s a Wrap.
