Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Detroit Rapper ‘BK’ – Talks new singles and radio play
BK started his career in music as a ghostwriter for his sister and her rap group. He also helped out directing their concerts, as well as participating in their shows. The group did rather well, opening for the likes of Rah Digga, Redman & Method Man, Trina, and Jay-Z.
At the time, BK, from Detroit, Michigan, was employed by a local independent record label, and although the girls went on to do more shows, they weren’t able to release any of their music, and the label went out of business. BK however seized the moment, and decided his time had come, to become an artist in his own name. His time behind the scenes taught him that the music industry is a cut-throat business, and so rather than entrust his music into the hands of just anyone, in addition to composing and performing his own songs, he launched his own label, Paystyle Records. Within a short time, the label released several national mixtapes, with “Time Is Money The Mixtape” being one of the most successful. His music was recently featured on “Bridging The Gap MixTape Vol. 3 with Dave East hosted by 91.8 WeOnRadio & Coast2Coast dj “DJ InfTheTurnUp”! BK also has three new hit singles, “No Pain” , “Stick Ya Self”, & his newly released record “HATE”, currently in rotation, generating quite a buzz and are establishing a nice foundation for the masterful emcee’s growing fanbase. With BK’s hit music video “No Pain” being featured on the front page of “DonDivaMagazine” for the entire month of September 2017, He also appeared in WON Magazine of New York. Along with his recent appearances on WorldStarHipHop, ThisIs50, Bridging The Gap vol. 3 mixtape with a host of Mainstream artists such as 50Cent, Dave East, Jada Kiss, and many more.., BK has amassed thousands of views, streams and fans in support of his music via his social media platforms especially his Twitter, Instagram, Facebook & YouTube Channel. On top of that he just finished a tour performing in three cities doing six shows on the road with his label mates. And most recently received the award of video of the year for “No Pain” by New York’s own radio station 91.8 fm !
With the mantra of Paystyle Records being they produce and perform music that will entertain and nurture the hearts and souls of fans, BK’s track, ‘No Pain’, is a fitting song for the label. The first lines, “Being independent…we go through trials and tribulations…ups and downs. But at the end of the day, it all equivelate out to one thing…No Pain No Gain!”
The video accompanying the song, directed by Boodang, shows that nothing can be achieved without hard work. Whether it be in the boxing ring, or on the track, or in business, or a dream to become a doctor – in everyone is a desire to be seen and heard, and it takes effort to get there.
‘No Pain’ is a very positive and encouraging song, and tells that there’s no easy way to get to the top, and is in effect a condensed history of BK’s career.
I perform my music under three different names because i have more than one Licensing & distribution deal in place. And my music can be found under these registered artist names “BK” , “BK-Paystyle”, & Paystyle Records Inc.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Detroit, Mi. I grew up in a home where performing arts was the way of life. It was a combination of my talent, the opportunities that were presented to me, my peer group, & various signifying details that i received over a course of a period of time that influenced my choice to be an artist. People would come to me and say “Hey you wanna be an extra in this movie” or “Come be apart of my music video” before i was ever thinking of being a rap artist. Plus, i always have been talented. So i just put two and two together and made four.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Work hard, be yourself, believe in yourself, and happiness is created not pursued
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
No not at all. No, I’m kidding ! Of course I make mistakes, not many, but i may make a mistake once every blue moon. I just keep going..the show must go on!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Yes I tour.. It’s always somethin’ poppin’ off! Not long ago, we were performing at a fundraiser with the Detroit Pistons as one of the sponsors. And my label mate broke her leg right before we went on stage and still was able to perform. We didn’t discover that her leg was broken until hours after our performance.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
We’re always upgrading our sound. Although i leave the technical stuff up to the engineers, i prefer to record with FL studio’s, Pro Tools & CakeWalk.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I find that i get my best results through direct interaction with my fans. Outside of cooling with my fans at my shows,..I like to max on Twitter , Instagram & YouTube. Interviews are cool too!
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I’d certainly perform with E-40 at the Staple Center in Los Angeles, California. He’s a living legend and continues to make iconic strides towards being greater. He’s always did his own thing and our music performed in the Staple Center would be like catching lightning in a bottle
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
“Hate” is what’s next! I’m working on the release of my new ep “Hate” in stores now!! The lyric video is dropping in two days and we’re working on some show dates to ride the wave too. We’re constantly working, building our platforms! Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel & follow me for more details. I’m revamping our website too
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
If i weren’t making music i’d probably sell real estate
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Fans can look forward to more music, more videos, and more shows. We’re going to keep my social media poppin’ too! Overall, me and my team going to keep working to bring ya’ll that fire!
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
I’d like to shout-out my team, my fans, my family, my friends & followers. Plus all the Dj’s and promoters who supports us and our music. I love ya’ll and I’m going to keep striving to bring ya’ll my best
