[Red Pill Review] Brexit by TETRYKX “a personal story and sense of expression”
The track deals with a topic that will probably find some sort of connection with most people who hear it, particularly those who are UK based. The sound is notably heavy and quite dark from the offset, the creativity of it varies throughout, that hook is the familiar thread, but in between this the structure is played around with a little and there’s a personal story and sense of expression to it all. There’s a mid-section that presents the line ‘I’m spitting some good vibes’, which seems like something of a breakaway from the song’s theme and sentiment. It keeps you on your toes a little but distracts slightly from the underlying essence.
The finished piece feels much more like an artist’s own expression of artistry and a desire to make music rather than a necessary, politically fueled piece. It does this well, you definitely get a feel for the artist’s sound and this comes through in both the production style and the vocal performance. The track presents blurred lines between genres in a way, there’s simply a set rhythm to it, a certain element of distortion and angst, perhaps a little retro or vintage ambiance on occasion, and from there on in it’s all about the lyricism, the vocal side of things.
The hook hits from the opening few moments and certainly stays with you after listening. There’s most probably a niche aspect to the sound and that will reach out to particular audiences with strong impact. As you listen to the verses there are some seriously political lines that deal with life and death and the effect that huge decisions like Brexit ultimately have on the people involved. Some lines really hit hard with the truth and that’s something more than worth sticking with in modern music.
