[Review] Signs of the Sky – Bright Stars “showcases a number of different abilities and influences”
‘Bright Stars’ features creative production that brings together elements of electronic rock and industrial EDM, and smooths out the rough edges with a synth-driven wave of dreamlike energy. The mix has a distinct rhythm and there are certain riff melodies featured throughout that provide the thread holding up the character and essence of the piece. However, outside of this, the song takes full advantage of structure, and the composition utilises its own creative freedom and veers off in a number of different directions from start to finish.
For the work of a producer, this four minutes and eight seconds long recording showcases a number of different abilities and influences. Fortunately, the variation doesn’t take too much away from those familiar threads, so you know you’re within the same experience until the end, but there’s a definite sense of vast creative energy and drive embedded within the song’s rhythm and sentiment. It’s actually the sort of piece that grows more and more enjoyable as it progresses, and once you’re fully familiar with the development of the sound, the evolution throughout the recording, the whole thing has an absolute level of character that is easily reliable as a go to dance or EDM track for those times desiring an escape from reality.
The producer is undoubtedly skillful in crafting unique and interesting soundscapes, but also in presenting something that is thick and vibrant and ready to wash over you as any great instrumental piece should. Listen more and more, and the story line, the movement from the opening moment to the finishing one, takes on even more of a distinct identity and presence. There are certain moments that glisten beautifully in among the otherwise upbeat and even manic energy of the music, and these grab your attention repeatedly.
