[Review] Rahat – Legends “calm and genuine”
The opening hook section and indeed the overall production on this track has been professionally composed and crafted so as to sound exactly as any radio ready pop-meets-hiphop release might. The contrast between the high end of the female hook vocal and the lower, spoken word tones of the male rap voice during the verses, is exactly the sort of thing that usually appeals to a wider audience. Structurally the changes between the two keep things interesting, and both voices are fairly gentle and enjoyable to listen to.
The concept and many of the lyrics have an inspiring essence, the specific direction of the song and its message isn’t crystal clear on first listen, the link between the hook and the verse lyrics takes a little more attention to work out. The overall idea seems to be that things change, people change, you have to go your own way and work things out, let the past be the past and keep moving forwards. The honesty and openness of the verses is commendable, the artist presents his inner thoughts and past experiences in a way that is calm and genuine, and that’s likely to connect with anyone who may have felt similar feelings.
The mellow ambiance of the song is reiterated with every element, the performances are passionate yet easy going, so the laid back energy of it all is maintained. The slower pace however means that there’s a notable level of space surrounding those verse lyrics, the smooth and easy going flow means that every line is heard, and every line therefore needs to be utilised to the fullest and made to count. Occasionally there are moments that seem less thought out than those surrounding them, but there’s definitely plenty of realness and character there to draw people in and hopefully keep them interested.
