[Review] Bad Blood’s ‘Chicken Nuggets’ “Bringing the unapologetically hard core reality of heavy metal to life”
Bringing the unapologetically hard core reality of heavy metal to life, the band present insane riff velocity and a manic, equally high speed rhythm section that screams urgency and volume. There’s a fairly distinct level of structure to the song, and it’s a strong touch to be able to actually make out the lyrics as is often not the case with independent hard rock and metal. That structure comes through in the varying sections, there are occasional moments of space, not quietness, but contrast within which the developing sound and story get time to be made sense of.
The leading vocal has the heavy metal screams on point, yet the verses, as mentioned, allow you access to the concept and the lyrics, which is all too often where the full throttle side of rock music falls short. There’s a humanness to all lyrics, and it’s often what people connect with the most, regardless of genre. These guys have a good balance, without sacrificing that genuine passion, the authentic metal sound.
The way in which the leading vocal offers lines and words that fall in time with the guitar riff is a definite strong point for the track. And as stated, the high energy and intensity of it is mesmerising – it’s impressive the fast-paced level at which the band manage to maintain their playing at certain times. There’s something ferocious and hugely passionate about the sound, the word authenticity comes to mind again and again. You can’t fake this kind of energy and drive to create and express. The title and concept of the song also hold a level of intrigue and appeal. And that hook line, the repetition makes it sink in just enough – so you take away the central idea, it quickly becomes recognisable.
