[Review] A.T Sosa- Wake Up (Prod. By JC Qwop) “fairly unique piece of audio”
The musical backdrop for this track has a fairly heavy and industrial energy to it. There’s little to no presence of a riff or instrumental melody for the most part, just this unusual beat and the somewhat haunting hint of a piano lingering in the distance. At first it feels as if the rapper and the backdrop are a little disconnected from each other, however, the more you listen, the more it all settles as this fairly unique piece of audio.

The leading voice has a certain level of passion and energy that drives the sentiment of the song with power. There’s a cinematic effect caused by this particular meeting of sounds and samples, and the rap vocal comes through almost like spoken word on occasion, the rhythm and flow of it varying and seeming like something of a freestyle on occasion. The intro and outro to the track have an enjoyable calmness to them, these intermittent moments in which the intensity of the music falls away, and the artist’s voice is laid almost bare. These are the moments you get a little more insight as to the mind of the writer and performer. Really though, the more full on moments are where the character of the entire release stands tall.
There’s an intense volume to it all that causes the soundscape to surround you, and all the while that piano part plays softly in the distance, reminding you that this is undoubtedly a case of creativity and thoughtfulness working in unison. There’s a thick and heavy vibe to the music, but there are these brief instances of emotion and reflective energy, and this adds a lot of value. It would be interesting to see where else the artist takes music in the future.
