[Review] Infinity Spree – Guides “a compelling and powerful vibe”
‘Guides’ is a great song with a powerful video to accompany the sentiment behind it. Infinity Spree offer a creative meeting of the indie and pop worlds, complete with thoughtful riffs, cleverly evolving melodies, unique concepts and lyrics, and effective performances from all involved. The musicianship featured on the record has an all at once organic and electronic energy to it. You can visualise a live show quite easily, and the sound has a fantasticly upbeat and uplifting rhythm that would suit a festival set brilliantly. You can also appreciate the production due to the creative use of instrumental effects and such, not simply a live acoustic piece but a thoughtfully crafted collection of sounds and moments, all of which work well together in portraying this song and it’s concept under the brightest possible light.
The band have worked hard to perfect their sound, and it’s paid off. The song opens up in a gentle and soothing manner, soon progressing as the beat comes into play and the very first melodic change occurs. Soon afterwards you get the quick fire lyricism of the pre-chorus, leading well into that hook section, which is an incredibly powerful moment.
The leading vocalist of the band has a stunning voice, the tone and character is distinctive enough to carry the personality of the band well. In addition, the vocalist’s ability to present the varying emotions and levels of passion as the song moves forwards is beautiful. The gentler verse sections are equally as effective and accurately expressed as the bigger, emotionally louder chorus sections. The hook melody stays with you as any great song’s hook should, and the music surrounding these moments, not least of all the vocal choir filling out any remaining space, creates a compelling and powerful vibe.
