MY LORD Uncle K.E.M ” true originality “
This track showcases some really unique and creative musical production. The introduction alone demands attention from its potential or nearby listeners, the drama of the sounds used adds an immediate intensity, but then soon enough this huge, solo brass riff comes into play – almost as if its a personality doused bass line – and then this light natured beat, and this addictive little melody. It’s a really interesting mix, really creative, as mentioned, and just generally gives off a good kind of energy throughout.
The whole thing is incomparable, which is awesome – to achieve true originality – and the great thing is that it doesn’t come at the cost of an enjoyable or entertaining sound. Far from it. The production is fairly minimalist, there are only so many sounds and moments, but the underlying concept and lyricism, particularly the hook and its melody, all drive the song forwards at full speed. The concept of the song is not one that is often touched upon in such creative, alternative music, and its a pleasure to hear. The hook is so simple yet immediately memorable. The line is repeated just enough times to make it truly sink in, and in between these moments there are these wonderful, spoken word sections that teeter between a sermon and a rap, a dramatic monologue even. Some of the lines are superb, particularly the final verse – there are some brief snippets of inspiration and beauty that shine with awesome brightness.
It’s a track to make you smile, but it also clearly means a lot to the artist behind it, the songwriter and composer, and so this adds a level of depth which further enhances the value of it and the way in which its received and appreciated. The creative edge is loaded with character.
