Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
8thagreat: Yall had sent my manager a DM or sumn like that on Twitter so he looked into it and here we are.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
8thagreat: My story is something that can’t really be told but heard thru out my many mixtapes, I grew up on the East Side of Charlotte tho on Village Lake. I’ve always loved music I’ve been rapping & producing for as long as I can remember. But only been recording since 15.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
8thagreat: My Name came from my older brothers calling me 8ball ever since I was a little kid my real name is Abel so it stuck, I knew I was meant for greatness so I named myself 8thagreat.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
8thagreat: That’s the best way to get your music out there & heard. I used to not want to release my music but now I’m dropping work like I never had before because I have a new lit fire n desire to show everybody what I got & that no one has anything like this in there computer. I always give my music away for free other then walking around selling CDs for a dollar each it’s all online on my soundcloud.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
8thagreat: all I can say on that is if you really believe you got something special don’t ever stop till your past where you wanna be n continue ahead.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
8thagreat: Nah I can’t afford to make mistakes during performances what I look like not knowing my words if I want the people to know my words. My manager YungRega is always on my ass about that, he will play the song over & over & over until he’s heard me say every single line on the track.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
8thagreat: I haven’t toured yet but I got plans for that to change real soon. I’m working on setting up a mini tour to all the college cities in NC after that we’ll see what’s next.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
8thagreat: Everything I wrote I saw with my own eyes or lived it myself. It’s all facts every single line I spit. I used to write the future cause after I record it actually happens to me. But my recording process is simple I get high & drunk play my beats or make new ones then start to write or freestyle which I’ve been doing a lot more of lately.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
8thagreat: I don’t have my own personal website but all my music is on Datpiff Youtube or Soundcloud all under the same name 8thagreat.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
8thagreat: Nothing would be embarrassing cause if I listen to it I don’t care what no one thinks, I like what I like no matter what no one has to say and usually get them to like it too.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
8thagreat: I would love Half a million dollars but why the hell would I take a year off I’m gonna go way harder & invest in myself to become the greatest artist I can be. Those artist who get the money & fall off are pitiful to me I sit at home and laugh at how they squander away an opportunity that people like me work everyday in and out to have
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
8thagreat: I produce & record on FL Studios 12 I’m comfortable with FL but I plan on upgrading my equipment and eventually the software that I use but for now I’m sticking to my guns until I feel it’s time to move on to the next.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
8thagreat: I use social media it’s probably the best thing for a guy like me who can drop music everyday if I wanted. I constantly repost old & new songs until I get it to these peoples heads that I am the one they’ve been looking for.
Exposed Vocals : If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
8thagreat: Man Biggie Cause he would bring all the bitches out & it could be anywhere they would all flock to us easily.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
8thagreat: I got Ball Responsibly dropping 8/11 Boot Music 3 coming soon after I got Bon Appetit 2 dropping 9/11 T.R.A.P. Lost Souls & Trap Trophies don’t have release dates but they will drop on the 11th of each month. It’s non stop work I can’t stop.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
8thagreat: I would be out here trappin until who knows when.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
8thagreat: Shit I wish I could remember I remember my brothers buying albums tho & all I could think was I can do this I know I can do that.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
8thagreat: My only responsibility is get this money & make music I got no other worries.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
8thagreat: I’ve been dropping work all summer since 6/11 & won’t stop till who knows when so they just gotta look on my soundcloud once a week there should always be something new.
