Exposed Vocals Interviews Ty Watcher
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
>
Ty Watcher: Honestly, you guys contacted me on Twitter, I just did the follow up, and here we are. Definitely glad to be here.
>
>Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
>
Ty Watcher: Well, I was born in New Jersey, but spent my youth in Georgia. A small city called Waycross. Even though I was in the south, I spent a lot of time with my older cousins who had grown up in New Jersey. It was with them, that I got exposed to Hip Hop, and found some of my favorite artist.
>
>Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
>
>Ty Watcher: Ty Watcher. The Youngest Watcher. Im a comic fan for one, and in Marvel Comics there are a group of extremely powerful beings called “The Watchers”. A bit corny, I know, but that is where I got the name. The Watchers are possibly the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and that is the type of impact that I want to have in Hip Hop.
>Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
>
Ty Watcher: I honestly believe online music sharing is a gift and a curse. The gift being that it makes it possible for an indie artist, such as myself, to make his music available to the entire world. I love that. The curse being, that it makes it very easy to be pirated. I wish more people understood, that for us indie artist, it is very important that you support us. This is a job, it really is. It is how I provide for my family.
Yes, I do give away a lot of music for free. I probably shouldn’t do it as much as I do, but I have a love for the music, and for the people that love my music. If I had the means to, I would do everything for free.
>Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Ty Watcher: Just keep going. Never give up, and stop waiting for someone to give you something. Sometimes you just have to kick in the door and take it. No hand-outs. You have to go and get what you want. Find some like minded people, and go make your dreams a reality.
>
>Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
>
Ty Watcher: All the time! I just keep going, I might make a joke, laugh it off, and keep the show rolling. I, like the fans, are there to have a good time, I try to make sure that happens. A mistake just shows that Im human. I dont take myself that serious.
>
>Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
>
Ty Watcher: I havent done a lot of touring, but I have hit the road to do some shows. I know there was this one time at a show, I was ridiculously hype. I was running around the stage, jumping and just really into the performance. Somebody must have spilled some water or something on the stage. I ran across that wet spot, and busted my ass. I just hopped up, laughed it off with the crowd and kept on going.
>
>Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
>
Ty Watcher: I do a lot of brain-storming. I’m always thinking of lyrics, and concepts. I have a small team that include a couple of other artist and a couple of friends. I bounce ideas off of them, and they let me know whats hot, and whats whack. I try to make sure Im surrounded by people that won’t spare my feelings. They are heartless, if I start spitting something whack, they make me feel like a couple idiot.
>Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
>
Ty Watcher: Im working on the website, but you can find me on Soundcloud, Revebnation, Bandcamp, and Facebook.
>Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
>
>Ty Watcher: The entire Will Smith Willienium album. That’s a guilty pleasure of mine. I honestly believe that some of the samples that were used on that album were phenomenal.
>Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
>
Ty Watcher: I would find something to invest in, probably real estate. I believe that is something you can’t go wrong in.
>Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
>
Ty Watcher: Actually, we are in the middle of building a brand new studio. Slow, but steady. We have been working hard, and soon it will be operational. I have an amazing engineer, who I have dubbed the “Milky Messiah”. He makes sure I the music is an excellent representation of what both him and I bring to the table.
>Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
>
Ty Watcher: Word of Mouth. Thats always the best, people are always more inclined to check something out when a friend or family member wont stop talking about it. I believe in personal interaction, I actually like to hit the streets, and pass out flyers and sell cd’s out of my backpack. Online is great for it as well, there are many tools out there, but I like the personal approach.
>Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
>
Ty Watcher: You know, I dont have a place in mind, but I know I would love to do a sold out show with some of my favorite artist. The artist that have influenced me the most. Busta Rhymes, Twista, Method Man, Redman, Biggie. I could go on and on, Im a fan of a lot of artist that came up in the 90’s, some in the 80’s. I would just really love to see that happen.
>Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
>
Ty Watcher: YES!! “Fresh” will be out by the Fall. Im so excited, because I have been working very diligently. I’ve some really dope tracks and I’m really just expressing myself through the music. I think I’m in the process of creating something, that Hip Hop fans will enjoy.
>Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
>
>Ty Watcher: The hell if I know! Probably just working some deadend job. Music is my passion, I put my all into this. If I didnt have it, I dont know what I would do.
>Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
>
Ty Watcher: The first album I bought was Busta Rhymes “Genesis”. I was stupid excited, because Busta is my absolute favorite rapper. That wasnt the first Busta album I had, but it was the first one that I bought. I actually stole “Extinction Level Event” from my cousin, and I loved that album. However, “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” is what made me want to rap in the first place
>Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
>
Ty Watcher: Luckily, my family stands behind me 100%. If it wasnt for that, I wouldn’t be able to do music like I want to. I still work a day job, but that would never stop me from striving for greatness in my music. But if I lost the support of the ones that I love, that’d be it for me.
>Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
>
Ty Watcher: “FRESH”
