Exposed Vocals Interviews Kid Fable
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Kid Fable: I heard about Exposed Vocals through twitter and saw that multiple artists were using it as a platform to expand their music audience and expand their music portfolio. After seeing the great response they were generating from the promotion, I decided to sign up as well
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Kid Fable: Well, I grew up in the suburbs of Toronto but was always captivated by the city and the rich underground music scene it had. Along with music, I also became a huge fan of battle rap and start battling around the city in various leagues to get my name out there as much as I could. After hearing and seeing the attention that my city was getting for its distinct sound, i decided to start making music and follow through with the sound that was affiliated with “Toronto”
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Kid Fable: This is actually a funny story, it sounds better in person though. But at a young age, I had a tendency to make up stories and fabricate different situations and scenarios around my friends and cousins. It came to a point were my family would be very intrigued as to what I was going to say next because the stories were actually very captivating. But each story had a moral to it, so my family would tell me that all I do is tell Fables. So that’s where the name came from
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Kid Fable: For now, I always give my music away for free because now a days I feel like its the smart thing to do. This is because with the emergence of technology and all that good stuff, streaming and downloading music for free has become more easy than every before, so even if I were to charge money for my music people could still get it for free. For me notoriety is way more important than sales right now, because with a large fan base people will come out to shows. And that’s exactly what I want… as many people coming out to shows as possible
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Kid Fable: Focus on perfecting your craft as much as you can before anything. Don’t rush your material, because your work speaks louder than any type of promo at the end of the day. If your work is of good quality, people will gravitate towards your music regardless. And most importantly find YOUR STYLE! Do what works for you instead following a norm
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Kid Fable: I love this question. I have choked in some performances due to nervousness and other factors that made me think about giving it all up at times. But what people don’t realize is that progression is the most important thing for any artist! Making mistakes is a learning experience, and for me that’s exactly what all my mistakes have been… nothing more than great learning experiences. That’s why I am where I am today, because I didn’t give up and kept going regardless of what obstacle I had to overcome
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Kid Fable: No tours as yet. Still in the beginning stages of getting my name out there. But with the music I’m making it shouldn’t be long before people begin to take note. Then the tours will begin….
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Kid Fable: I gather inspiration through experiences and emotion. How I’m feeling on a particular day at the studio will set the pace for what type of record ya’ll gonna hear
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Kid Fable: I use Twitter and Instagram and Facebook as promo, but soundcloud is my main platform for sharing music. I’m currently working on a site as well that will be up and running very soon
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Kid Fable: Not sure haha, I have a variety of music and pretty much all major albums of the past two years so it really depends
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Kid Fable: I would probably go right back to the studio and start recording more stuff, work on music videos. The grind wouldn’t stop
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Kid Fable: I go to a professional studio, I don’t have one of my own
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Kid Fable: I feel that building a hype around your music for a while and then dropping it soon after calls for the best reception. This means giving people snippets and cuts on different social media sites just to show the peeps what your working with
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Kid Fable: Probably Jay Z at MSG because he is one my favourite artists of all time and a living legend. I would also choose to perform with Drake in Toronto because that would give me another big sense of accomplishment knowing that I can throw down for my city
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Kid Fable: Just more music, about to drop a mixtape/album and then music videos and after that more music
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Kid Fable: No idea, probably be working a regular 9-5 after graduating school
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Kid Fable: The first album I ever bought was Eminem’s Encore album, I remember that as being a very exciting day for me because I was inspired by Em’s style of rapping and used it as motivation to create music for myself
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Kid Fable: That can be difficult at times but by staying focused and not losing sight of the bigger picture it allows me to put things into perspective and grow both as an artist and an individual
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Kid Fable: More music… A lot more!
