Who needs Nashville? Texas artists rock the Texas Music Scene” A.A.G Records presents JLC ‘I Be On It’
Who needs Nashville? Texas artist JLC rocks the Texas Music Scene
It took a long time for the South to be recognized as a major player in the hip-hop scene, and it still has a ways to go to be held in the same regard as the East and West coasts, but with the emergence of a new breed of countrified rappers such as Big K.R.I.T., Future, Yelawolf and 2 Chainz (and even hyper-influential artists like Harlem’s A$AP Rocky, whose flow is reminiscent of the old Houston flow and whose style strongly evokes that of Three 6 Mafia by proxy of SpaceGhostPurrp), the Southern brand of hip-hop is clearly on the rise and getting bigger! With artists like JLC set to blow, it’s only going to get bigger. It’s no surprise the Lone Star State is a hotbed of great music. Austin boasts one of the most vibrant music scenes in the U.S., let alone Dallas! Houston, as well, continues to play a vital role in the development of not only southern hip-hop, but the genre as a whole.
JLC is the nom de guerre of inspiring gospal rap artist Jermaine Clarkson – originally from Fort Worth Texas, but now ringing bells in the Dallas, Texas area under A.A.G. Records (ALL AROUND GOSPEL RECORDS).
So, let’s talk about JLC’s hit new single “I Be On It”
While reppen Houston, JLC extends his hand to the South East
“Shout out to the whole ATL”
“I Be On It” has one of the smoothest, most effortless flow that I’ve heard in awhile. JLC sounds like he’s just talking at times. The key is an almost imperceptible assonance that JLC uses to string out his thoughts, which indicates a tremendous amount of effort on his part. In other words, he works hard to make it look so easy.
Perhaps you’re a longtime fan of Christian hip-hop, just started exploring the genre, or only recently discovered that the two worlds could favorably collide.
Regardless of how you got here, JLC is definitely and artist to keep an ear out for as he returns a gritty, Southern sound to the genre.
