Keepin’ in greasy with Two Piece Dalmatian’s Bronson Mahrt
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist? Â
Bronson: I grew up, for the most part, in Tulsa Oklahoma. Most of us lived the majority of our lives here, unfortunately, but we all have done some moving around. I think it’s natural. All of us have been cursed with the desire to create, and our avenue just happens to be through music. I feel fortunate to have these people as my friends and bandmates because, frankly, they get it.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Bronson: If I am being honest, we struggle with this. It isn’t easy to be an artist anywhere, but we happen to be located in Oklahoma City, which isn’t exactly a haven for indie bands. My advice would be to see the value in your work, but never be too big for an opportunity. From what I understand, the music industry, at least in Oklahoma, is all about scratching backs. So put yourself out there, you never know what could come out of an opportunity. Just don’t get taken advantage of.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Bronson: As far as I am concerned, mistakes are just a part of the live experience. We revel in them. Mainly because we are all drunk.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about? Â
Bronson: Two Piece Dalmatian is very new. About two weeks old. Lots of drunken jam sessions, but no touring. Yet! With that being said though, I think we have all done a little traveling with other projects and hope to do some in the future.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now? Â
Bronson: We were fortunate to get in touch with a great local producer named Tyler Garcia to do this single. We are in the process of tracking new material ourselves at our own pace. We all are insanely particular about our music and we think that writing and tracking at our own pace will render a better product, and hopefully we will have an album, or at least an E.P. sometime soon.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Bronson: We mainly just shove it down our friends’ throats, and hope they like it enough to share with their friends. But, we are trying to spread our music abroad and I think websites like this are a great thing for bands like us. Cheer to you guys, seriously.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why? Â
Bronson: Umm, I don’t want to speak for everyone, but me personally, I would choose Bonnaroo with like a combined super band including, Gorillaz, Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and like Charli XCX. I feel like that would make for a hell of a show. I would probably just play like the triangle or something because they all are good enough on their own. They don’t need me greasing up that performance. But, you bet your ass I’d be playing the shit out of that triangle.Â
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Bronson: We are basically just whoring ourselves out to any venues or events willing to let us play our own material. Oh, and recording. Lots of recording. Me personally, I am just trying to graduate college. Ideally, Two Piece Dalmatian blows up soon so I don’t have to go to grad school. Grad school is like the antithesis to the rock and roll lifestyle I am trying to live. Â
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing? Â
Bronson: Probably… nothing.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so? Â
Bronson: More music! Add us on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Sound Cloud, Bandcamp, ALL THAT SHIT.
