“vibe is consistently positive” Glancy Kelly – Hold On To Me
The track has a great beat, a great overall vibe that’s easy to get into. The echo effect of the beat sets a particular sort of scene that could either be effective or overbearing, but in this case it really compliments the synth sounds and the melody of the song, and it sounds great. The backdrop to the song seems to have hints of trip-hop inspiration, but the song itself, lyrically and melodically, and indeed the vocal performance and the style of it all, is very much reminiscent of classic r&b tracks from back in the day. You get a little bit of the nostalgia from this, and a little bit of something new, so it all plays a great part in making the song stand out.
The music has such a light and bright energy to it, the vibe is consistently positive and this transcends as you listen – the whole thing has an uplifting effect. The vocal melody seems more like an additional instrument for the most part, not making the track massively about the artist singing, but more of a unit, an expression in its entirety. There is nothing greatly notable about the lyrics or indeed the hook, but sometimes that can be a good thing – the music makes for something more interesting than a classic or catchy pop song. There’s power in the way the various sounds work together, the creative nature of the production, and in the end – the point of the music is to make people feel good. The intention of the lyrics is not explicitly clear on first listen, but if you’re drawn to the sound you’re likely to listen more than once, at which point you’ll start to grasp what it’s all about and get a little closer to the performer.
