Music Review for Sir James Tee – Power 2 Da People
It’s great to see such an influx of artists with meaningful messages to relay in their music. When it’s done with great style and creativity it makes it all the more interesting and empowering to experience. This track has, underneath everything, a beautiful backing track – an uplifting piano rhythm, a light and joyful beat, a lot of switch-ups and switch-back-downs in term of the speed and the overall vibe – it doesn’t allow you any time to get tired of the track, things are constantly moving forward, moving on to the next moment.
The vocal parts are the very heart of the track, the spoken recordings about parenthood and more, plus the artist’s own verses – it’s a lot of talk about issues that aren’t often discussed in music, so it’s important that someone is doing it, and it’s hugely influential and inspiring when an artist can put their time and energy in to producing such a track, as opposed to turning that energy into something negative. To make art from it is one of the best ways to react, and to share that art, and hopefully reach out to other, perhaps younger, listeners and artists, is a hugely positive effect as well. In terms of the music, the track sounds great, it quite often flicks between the light and happy sounding, to the dark and very serious – an appropriate way to reflect the issues that are laid out in the lyrics. The artist also has really great lyrical flow, which is a massive bonus.
The production is top notch, really letting every part of the sound get into your mind, all well mixed and each element effectively complimenting those around it. When an artist has something real to say, a captivating voice and some quality music with which to say it, that’s when you know it’s someone you can come back to. Someone to listen to and watch out for. You get those return listeners and supporters when you touch on real, often raw subject matter.
