Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Half8n: "We all grew up in Tulare, CA. The central valley. Just dirt and manure for miles. Thats all the motivation you need to become an artist. Some of the greatest artists in the world came out of the middle of nowhere, and attribute their talent to the isolation."
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Eric(Lead Guitar): "Be confident in your abilities as a band before any gigs happen." Ethan(Bass): "Don't be afraid to be turned down, use it as motivation" Justin(Drums): "There is no 'I' in 'Band'. Team work is everything" Dalton(Vox/Rhythm Guitar): "Don't be surprised, or disappointed at how hard it is to get on the air. It isn't like it used to be. As far as gigs go, if its pay to play, you're better off investing in needed equipment or even studio time."
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Eric: "Absolutely, we're human." Justin: "Here's how you handle that, go back to what we said about team work. Make sure everyone knows the song front and back, so if there is a mistake they know exactly when and where to get back in." Ethan: "Also if you don't call attention to a minor mistake, attention won't be given. However, this doesn't work if its a total train wreck and you have to stop the song."
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Dalton: "We do tour. Not currently touring though. Once when we were on tour, a smelly old mountain man tried to get us to do acid with him and his wife, and roll around naked on the floor for 12 hours.... " Eric: "Needless to say, we totally did it because we're down af...... No we didn't."
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Justin: "Constantly upgrading, every chance we get. We're currently using Reaper. And I play a PDP X Series 7 Piece Kit" Ethan: "I used the Schecter Riot 4 with EMGs to track all my tracks, just through an old Fender Rumble. Which sounds great if you play with knobs long enough" Eric: "I use Dean guitars, for tracking and performing. Through Mesa and Randall amplifiers." Dalton: "I'm promiscuous when it comes to guitars. I use an Ibanez Iceman. I also like to play a Fender Telecaster with humbuckers when we're writing in standard tuning. And Eric actually gave me a DBZ Halcyon thats amazing. So I get around. I prefer Marshall amplification."
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Eric: "Social Media is the way to get it done today. That doesn't mean buy followers. On ANY platform" Dalton: "Also check with your local radio stations to see if they have a segment where local bands get airplay. Here in our hometown, there's a station that airs local bands for an hour every Sunday night."
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Half8n: "We collectively agreed that it would have to be, Pantera. In Moscow, Russia 1991. Because there was 1.6 million people there, to see us headline for Pantera. You know, if we were there and stuff."
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Dalton: "We very recently finished tracking all new songs for our first full length album. There's not really much we can say about it right now other than, we are currently in the mixing process, it will be self titled, and it is planned for release this year"
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Ethan: "I'd probably be in the Marine Corp." Dalton: "I would work at a gas station until I die" Justin: "I would go back to school" Eric: "Becoming a monk"
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Dalton: "A full length, self titled album. And we'll be working towards having a presence on YouTube. We'll also be getting everything prepped for live shows."
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Half8n: "We'd like to thank our parents. Friends and Fans for sticking by us knee deep in manure, in central California. We'd like to thank Sylvia, Serj, James, and Exposed Vocals,"
