Front and Center with Grhyme

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Mississauga, Ontario. A city just outside of Toronto, Canada. Growing up i listened to all genres of music. I played guitar and wrote lyrics from acoustic to screamo to ska to rock rap bands i was in. Ive always had the music in me, in my blood but around grade 9 was when i took it seriously and focused on rap and hip hop. It became all i thought about for positive or negative reasons.its been almost 10 years now and not much has changed.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Never give a **** about haters. In other words, if you love what you do 99.9% of the time there are many many out there that will love it too. If you arent feeling the love you know you deserve you just arent reaching out to the right crowd. DONT GIVE UP.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
For sure. Lyrically, who cares if its unknown or new material who will know? Learn to play off your own mistakes. If its something like dropping the mic mid-set (ill tell you from experience) move on. Who cares... 1 small mistake will not outweigh a dope performance!
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Not yet. Working on the first full length project while juggling full time college and work. But just hold tight and ill be on tour soon.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I am working with home studio equipment. Korg, my shure sm58 and good old ableton & fruity loops. Like some of my independent hip hop idols my lane is my game and if i have to learn every aspect myself i will. It also is easier on preserving then growing the wallet!
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Dont rely on social media so much. Yes its a great tool but get out there! Small gigs summer venues shows open for artists sell E.Ps and mixtapes. Its a huge world! He internet is only one aspect. But its oversaturated with everyone attempting the same methods. Your handshake and your face is still the best way to preach your own name. GTFO THERE!!
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Alive id choose my favorite underground idol Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks and Army of the Pharaohs alongside Aesop Rock. As for the gone but remembered my choice lies with Kurt Kobain and Sean Price.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Just the first full tape. Self titled "Grhyme". Look out for it!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Id be doing exactly what i do now, but without my pride and joy, the microphone. Going to school for business and working as a line cook.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
