Exposed Vocals Interviews Black Wave
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Artist: A guy name Randy Morano contacted me on Twitter and told me that I should check out Exposed Vocals so here I am.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Black Wave: I was born in Toledo, Ohio, I moved around a lot as a kid because my parents were back and forth with each other and back and forth with jobs. When I was 8 years old my grandparents moved us to Rossford. Rossford is a suburb of Toledo. I decided to become and artist because I have always felt immense passion for music. One day it dawned on me that if I loved music this much why shouldn’t I play my own. I started to read about people such as Kevin Parker and Mac demarco and how they recorded amazing records at home. This made the entire process seem like it was achievable for me.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Black Wave: I came up with Black Wave because I believe that my music is a mixture of dark feelings with a bit of light to it. It’s like a wave of dark vibes that hit you but you are always somehow able to become a better person from them.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Black Wave: I am new to music, I think that online music sharing is an amazing thing for up and coming artists and I do let everyone listen to my music for free.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Black Wave: All I can say is this, NEVER GIVE UP. You get better with every take on a song.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Black Wave: I’ve never played live but I’m sure mistakes will be made. I am actually a very shy person.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Black Wave: No tours yet.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Black Wave: I gather inspiration from life, love, and heartache. My process is to just play something and if it is going to be a song I can tell from the get go.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Black Wave: soundcloud.com/black_waves I am only on soundcloud right now.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Black Wave: I’m not embarrassed of anything I listen to but there are some pretty sticky love songs on my player
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Black Wave: I would spend it on a house to continue to pursue my dreams in music.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Black Wave: No upgrades, I am currently working with a couple of microphones and garage band.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Black Wave: I try to just share my songs with friends and hope that it will blow up organically.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Black Wave: my dream is to open for Mac demarco or Kevin Parker. Because they are the reason I am recording my own music, without their influence I would be nothing.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Black Wave: I am currently working on an ep with about 5 songs by myself as well as working with an actual band on other music.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Black Wave: skateboarding or taking pictures
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Black Wave: oh I have so many, I remember when I first listened to Innerspeaker by tame impala and it changed me forever. Never heard anything like it.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Black Wave: I hang on by a thread.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Black Wave: hopefully my ep 🙂
