Exposed Vocals just sat down with “Daddy Slaggy” for an exclusive interview
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Daddy Slaggy :Harare,Zimbabwe then later UK,I have always loved music so I Think it came naturally as I got older and following a musical path was like a taboo so being rebellious I think that’s why I picked up reggae dancehall music as it was still untapped in Zimbabwe.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Daddy Slaggy :Picking a name was the hardest at school I called myself Malves Hotspur then went on to Slaggy yout which I created using the first letters of the songs I had written then eventually Daddy Slaggy coz I’m a big man now
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Daddy Slaggy: it’s good when it’s promotional stuff and if it can be controlled I used to give out a lot but then realised when you decide to sell your fans will think you now been corky so now it has to be a special freebie
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
No gig is too small a wise man told me don’t be discouraged when people are not dancing or jumping at your show some prefer just to listen,and also Believing in yourself is important
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Not regularly coz I started as a live performer in a band before studio if I make a mistake I simply improvise as if it was part of the act.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
I am planning on doing a tour sometime in the future once I have put out a few more records,I remember once being introduced on stage just after the mc had asked the crowd are you ready for the main and with the crowd buzzing I was sent onstage ‘awkward ‘
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Everyday activities, news,films and sometimes just going on YouTube and playing some instrumentals from upcoming producers,usually I record a hook on my phone then work on it from there just singing in my phone till it’s ready to be put on paper.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Daddy Slaggy:whoa I have some Cindy Lauper ‘girls wanna have fun’ which is a good song and ‘watch mi wip’ blame my daughter for that.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Daddy Slaggy:pay off mi bills first then visit the Caribbean, Manchester United season ticket, a mean set of wheels and studio then give some to charity and family & friends.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Daddy Slaggy:Don’t have home studio anymore but I’m working with Pro Tools at Indigo Studios Glasgow.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Daddy Slaggy:it’s trial and error I think having street teams is a good way of promoting and also perfoming live shows,online is good once you have established a firm fanbase.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Daddy Slaggy :Shaggy at Wembley he is flawless on stage and his catalogue is amazing as well.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Daddy Slaggy: I have just released a new single ‘just Dnce’ produced by Wissla One ‘ available on iTunes and all leading online retailers and it’s a fusion of Afrobeats and Dancehall it’s song just encouraging more dancing and less chatting in the dance.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Daddy Slaggy:I wanted to be a footballer before I picked up music or I could be a soundsystem selector.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Daddy Slaggy :Bad by Micheal Jackson it was during the Xmas period I had done well at school so as a bonus I got extra cash to buy a record(vinyl) and it was a simple choice really.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Daddy Slaggy:Well I’m a family man 24/7, have a regular 9 to 5 and inbetween trying to make good music so it’s a struggle but they say the harder the battle the sweeter the victory. This
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Daddy Slaggy :A couple of albums on the market, more live shows and few award nominations.
