Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Blair: I found Exposed Vocals via Twitter. And I am feeling very lucky that I found you guys !! 🙂 Exposed Vocals is a great asset for new/old artists, bands, musicians. I say new & old both as those of us who are in music for years can benefit as well.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Blair: I was born in India, a town called Patna, Capitol of state Bihar. I was a few days old baby, my Mother saw an extraordinary attraction for Music in me. Whenever there were good songs played on Radio, Cassette Tapes or Record players I would listen to those and when there were sad songs I used to cry badly and showed bad temper when bad songs were played. So my mother gave me this name Sangeet which is the Hindi word for Music ! Yes my middle name is in fact Music !!!
As a kid I used to play drums along with artists’ records & tapes. My fav were The Police, ABBA, Dire straits, Eagles, then there was a German teen band from early 80s The teens today. I enjoyed playing drums along with these. These were mid to late 1980s. I was a big fan of a musical tv show called Eurotops by Transtel, Cologne, Germany. Although I liked playing drums, tried playing guitars, bass, etc, (I still don’t know how to play Guitars). My main interest was electronic music. I loved Synthesizers & those Simmons/Roland Electronic Drum Kits shown on tv. They were very futuristic ! There were other artists also I admired along with Michael Jackson, Dr Alban, Enigma/Michael Cretu . I started Composing around 1991-92. Then I started Programming Sequencing Sampling on my Ensoniq ASR-10. I had a Roland SPD 11too. I self taught myself within days how to programme music on ASR-10. 🙂 I never got any type of training. Later I had Korg X5D, then Trinity Rack Module (TR Rack) and much much later Korg Karma Workstation.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Blair: Well although I use my real name as an artist. My bedroom studio decorated in girlie style is called English Fairy. When I was a kid I wanted to start a band and English Fairy was the name I had in my mind.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Blair: Online music sharing is very cool. Yes I have shared my music free because as an artist it gives you chance to show yourself to world. It’s like artists doing live gigs to promote themselves. Back in the days some artists distributed CDs for free. Basics never change, now it’s MP3 downloads instead of CDs.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Blair: Compose good songs because in the end a good composition or lyrics will stand out. Production techniques and equipment also counts. Learn your craft. Play shows, record new songs. Avoid distractions pay attention to your main goals.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Blair: I seldom do and those are minor ones. Yes but there are times when your Computer crashes or power failure, Cable jack not working 🙁 the stage is shaking. :/
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Blair: No I don’t but I was playing in a local gig and the drums weren’t mine. In the middle of the song the bassdrum pedal stopped working and that was a dance track, 4/4 beat. So I grabbed an extra kick beater lying and played the Kick rest of the song using my hands. Sometimes changing into dub step beats in between. 🙂
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Blair: Sometimes it comes in my mind doing non musical things but most of the time while playing my Virus ti2 polar synth and logic 9. I sequence everything in logic. I prepare instrumental tracks first then comes Vocals production. Sound designing is also an essential part for me. Gothic, Sci fi and Hollywood movies/tv are my inspirations.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Blair: Not yet but I am planning. Twitter is my favourite, now I have started using Instagram. I use Soundcloud, LinkedIn as well as other sites.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Blair: They are not in my player but in my mind. One of these days I’ll produce anti hippie song. :/
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Blair: On new gear 🙂 Synths, sample libraries, Computers, etc Both my job and hobby is music. Isn’t that great ! 🙂
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Blair: I use Apple logic 9 with Virus ti2 polar along with sample libraries. Yes I will upgrade to logic X. I would love to buy a Roland V synth GT. Another Access Virus ti2 keyboard (5 octave version) & Korg Kronos. I love hardware samplers like ASR-10.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Blair: I load my new tracks on Soundcloud, sometimes on Mixcloud and share links using LinkedIn and Twitter. I send my Soundcloud links to A&Rs and Music Supervisors (for Film/Tv).

Blair: Weapons development, Time travel/ Teleportation Research 🙂 :/
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Blair: It was a cassette tape top ten USA.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Blair: It’s difficult, as I do everything from cleaning my home studio, music equipments to pitching my music online/offline. Although I do have agents and music attorneys in LA & New York.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Blair: New tracks !!! 🙂 I hope to create good music, do remixes for other artists as well. Work hard so that when my time on earth ends I can say that I tried my best, not for money, not for fame, but for satisfaction that I’ll have in my grave !!!
