Hot new interview with Legacy
Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?
Legacy: I first heard about Exposed Vocals when I was on Twitter one day. I was just sending a video of me singing the cover of a song to different websites and Exposed Vocals sent me a tweet that said ‘How about a published interview with Exposed Vocals?’ and I was like woah…this could be for real, like, I could use this right now so I read up on it and saw it was legit and then I signed up and told them that I wanted the interview so they sent me the information and that’s how that went down.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Legacy: I’m originally from Montgomery, Alabama but I grew up in Fort Walton Beach, Florida and Shalimar, Florida. I was really young when I decided I wanted to become an artist. I was maybe 8 I think, when I started getting obsessed with music, and when I started to understand it more that’s when I started making beats and songs and things like that later when I was 13.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What is your inspiration behind it?
Legacy: Well after I tried a bunch of different names that were just…out of this world, out of nowhere Legacy came to my mind and I was so happy I didn’t think of anything weird this time. And Legacy was basically something that was to be fulfilled, like a destiny.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Legacy: I think if you have music you should definitely share it online because it lets a wider range of people listen to it and helps you have a better chance of you getting noticed, but don’t let people have it for free. If it’s music you did and worked hard on, I think you should get something back for making something people love.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start off once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Legacy: Yeah, you really have to work hard and put your heart and soul into everything you record. Music has to be your life.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Legacy: I remember when I was performing at a church it was so funny but embarrassing at the same time. I was in 6th grade I think it was, and a whole line of Silent Night just blanked out of my mind so I just hummed the whole second line then finished the rest of the song. I was so happy it was over with, and I want to let you know I CANNOT walk well in heels, and that’s what I was wearing and there was like 8 stairs below me and I had to go down them to leave the stage. I got off of them fine until that last step. I tripped, but I didn’t fall, so I just looked at the audience and smiled like nothing happened and they clapped louder.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Legacy: Nah, since I’m just starting out and currently trying to get a label, I haven’t toured yet.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspirations? What is your usual songwriting process?
Legacy: When I write my songs I usually get inspired by my feelings or by things I see or hear. Like if I’m sad over something, I’ll start making sounds in my head and sing words that rhyme in a certain pattern and if I’m feeling it I’ll put music to the words and there goes another song. Same if I was mad, happy, or in love or something.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Legacy: Yeah, I literally just started working on it actually. I use Soundcloud and YouTube mostly to promote my music. You can visit my website athttp://ravenjordan5552.wix.
Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?
Legacy: I’m a person that listens to a lot of Hip Hop, like I listen to artists like Rae Sremmurd, Wiz Khalifa, Speaker Knockerz, Migos, Rich Homie Quan and sometimes The Weeknd so whenever I play my music on speakers, and Take Me To Chruch by Hozier plays, the people that I’m hangin around look at me like ummm…what is that. But I don’t care I like Take Me to Church. Its probably the only song I have on my phone that isn’t Hip Hop.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Legacy: If I was given that, then I would definetly use that money to at least buy major equipment so when that year off is over with I can make a really good comeback.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Legacy: I plan on making major upgrades, because everything I make I make it on my phone. Everything is saved on there.
Exposed Vocals: How do you promote your music? What works best for you?
Legacy: When I promote my music I just look for sites that I know tons of people go to daily like YouTube and Twitter; social places, you know? I put a few of my covers on my website ravenjordan555.wiz.com/Legacy, also on Twitter where you can follow me @RavenJordan5, and on YouTube under my real name, Raven Jordan.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Legacy: I really want to perform with Wiz Khalifa because he’s my overall, like all time favorite artist. His music is amazing and I’ve seen interviews and stuff and his Day Today Episodes on YouTube he seems like a really cool and funny person to chill with. Hopefully me and Wiz can “party” on 420.
But where to perform at, it doesn’t really matter. Anywhere is cool.
Exposed Vocals: So what’s next? Any new upcoming projects you want to talk about?
Legacy: Not really, just the same catchy bass boosting music I always bring.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Legacy: To be honest, I really don’t know. I thank God that he gave me music talents that let me use them to my ability.
Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?
Legacy: Yeah, I remember buying my first album. It was earlier this year when I was 14. It was the album SremmLife by Rae Sremmurd, and when I was looking at it I was thinking ‘Man I really like the song “This Could Be Us” and “Up Like Trump”, so I think I’ll buy it.’ I was just at the register humming ‘This Could Be Us’ with the album in my hand.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Legacy: I always handle my responsibilities first and no matter how much it is they will get done. But when I have music time, it is crunch time. I grab my Hot Cheetos and Monster and get in my own zone and everything is blocked out while I’m working.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?
Legacy: They should definitely look forward to a lot more Legacy being talked about everywhere they go.
